This is the GollyGee Blocks™ FAQ for Windows users. If you're question isn't answered here, please either use our online form or your favorite email program to email us at support@gollygee.com.

1. It says it cannot find opengl32.dll. What do I do?
2. Everything is really dark. What do I do?
3. I cannot see the toolbars at the top of the screen. What do I do?
4. Sometimes it gets stuck in spin mode, how do I get it to stop?
5. How can I load scenes from GollyGee Blocks into other programs?

1. It says it cannot find opengl32.dll. What do I do?
(This should happen with the demo only, and not the full version.) Download this file and execute it.We do not include OpenGL DLLs in the demo to keep the download small, although it is in the full CD-ROM version. OpenGL (the 3D graphics library GollyGee Blocks uses) is already on most Windows systems, but some older versions do not have it. The above program installs it for you. Note that if you have to do this, you may want to make sure your OpenGL drivers are up to date (see question question 3).

2. Everything is really dark. What do I do?
This probably means you are running in 256 color mode, which is not enough for GollyGee Blocks. You need to run in at least 16-bit color mode. Here are some instructions how to set your color depth to 16-bit color.

3. I cannot see the toolbars at the top of the screen. What do I do?
You probably need to update your OpenGL drivers. GLSetup is a nice utility which will do this for you on Windows 95 and 98. Windows NT users should go to their PC or video card manufacturers web page to find the proper drivers. If you have purchased the full version of GollyGee Blocks, GLSetup is included on the CD-ROM. To run GLSetup:

  1. At the Windows desktop, open up My Computer
  2. Select the icon for GollyGee Blocks
  3. From the drop-down File menu, select Open
  4. Run the glsetup program (may be named glsetup.117 or glsetup.117.exe).
GLSetup will warn you that it is a beta program. Don't let this scare you, it'll be OK. It will probably never come out of beta, but it's still distributed with millions of computer games every year. If anything does go wrong with GLSetup, you can uninstall it and unless you've got some really odd hardware your system will be fine.

4. Sometimes it gets stuck in spin mode, how do I get it to stop?
This occurs when holding down the mouse button on one of the camera controls and then moving the mouse outside of the control before letting go of the mouse button. Holding down the shift key and clicking on the same camera control you started in usually fixes this. We expect to have this error fixed in our next update.

5. How can I load scenes from GollyGee Blocks into other programs?
Other programs cannot read the 3D data format that GollyGee Blocks uses, but you can take snapshots of your scenes which many program like MS Paint, Word, or PowerPoint can read. To take a snapshot, go to the file menu, and click on the camera button. When you exit GollyGee Blocks you can find the snapshot by going to the Start Menu, then Programs, then GollyGee Blocks, and clicking on the GollyGee Blocks Snapshots directory (CD-ROM version only; demo users will find the snapshots saved to their desktop). This will open up a window from which you can open the images in Paint, drag them into other programs, etc.
